Mark your calendars—because Roanoke is about to buzz with activity! The Southwest Virginia Bee Festival is returning to Elmwood Park on Saturday, August 23, and it’s shaping up to be a sweet day of family fun, community connection, and plenty of local flavor.

This free, family-friendly event is all about celebrating pollinators and the important role they play in our world. Here’s what you can look forward to:

Shop & Taste Local – Browse more than 50 food and craft vendors, sample honey from local producers, and even try a sip from Atheling Meadworks.

Free Ice Cream – Thanks to Freedom First, the first stop for many families will be the ice cream station, serving up free scoops from 9 AM – 12 PM.

Kids’ Fun Zone – From free face painting to hands-on activities, kids of all ages will stay busy and entertained.

Bee Smart Passport – Kids can pick up a passport, visit participating booths, and complete activities to earn a prize-filled gift bag.

Up-Close with Bees – Safely watch honeybees in action through live observation hives—a favorite for curious little explorers.

Raffle Prizes – Feeling lucky? Enter for a chance to win a Beginner Beehive Kit or even a night’s stay at The Liberty Trust Hotel.

Beyond the fun, the festival is a reminder of just how important pollinators are to our everyday lives. By coming together to celebrate, shop, and learn, families are also helping support local artisans, small businesses, and sustainability efforts in our community.

So gather your crew, bring a picnic blanket, and get ready to be amazed at this year’s festival!
